• We're Traveling Mamas sharing our adventures with the world. We offer tips on great (and not so great) places to visit with children and how to have the best family vacations -- but it's not all about the kids, of course! Romantic escapes, girlfriend getaways, and solo trips are also important to us. Plus, we cover industry news and review travel gear, and we love to give things away!

    Writer Mama Rocks!

    By DesertMama | January 14, 2008

One of the common questions I get asked is, “How do you become a paid writing mom?”

I’ve recently replaced my “Here’s what you do…” reply with, “You should totally read Writer Mama by Chistina Katz.”

Writer MamaWhile I don’t know Christina personally, I do know her name as a freelance writer just from her online presence and blog. Writer Mama is designed to helping mamas raise their children alongside their writing career. (I have two preschoolers and two teenage stepsons and am more than open to advice on the topic of mixing my kids with my writing career.)

Writer Mama is divided into four “P” sections: Preparation, Practice, Professionalism, and Poise, all offering some amazing advice for mamas wishing to begin a writing career. Everything from the basic “how to get started” information, to how to deal with procrastination, childcare, organizing — basically everything and anything writing mamas have issues with.

My favorite advice in Writer Mama: “Seventeen Ways to Avoid Writer Mama Burnout”.

If you are just starting your writing career, this book is for you. I think Christina did a terrific job pulling together a friendly, informative book just for writing mamas. I can’t wait to see what’s next on Christina’s agenda.

    Here’s to all writing mamas!
