Tales of the Tiki Cocktail
By DesertMama | February 19, 2008
Summertime is only months away, and lets just say – it’s time. I’m so looking forward to my flip-flops, a good tan, and most of all tropical beverages. I have to say nothing screams “FUN!” like a tropical drink, that’s why I went crazy when I heard about Author Jeff “Beachbum” Berry’s latest book Sippin’ Safari: In Search of the Great “Lost” Tropical Drink Recipes. The cool part, it’s not just recipes. The book is loaded with history of the people “behind the drinks”.
In fact, if you’re looking for a weekend getaway head on down to CajunMama land. Friday night Mr. Beachbum will be hosting the Tales of the Tiki Cocktail dinner and tasting at The Pelican Club. Chef Richard Hughes will be doing what he does best, as will Mr. Beachbum and it sounds like the pair has a quite an evening planned. The dinner is an extension of the annual “Tales of the Cocktail” to be held in New Orleans July 16-20th.
The next day, be sure to stop by the Borders at 3131 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, LA to have your personal copy of Sippin’ Safari signed by the fabulous Bum himself. The fun isn’t over yet, if you attend the dinner and/or book signing you get a free pass to another Beachbum event Monday the 25th at the Old New Orleans Rum Distillery (5pm-7pm). Can’t make the weekend events? Don’t sweat it. The distillery event is only $10 and check out all your Hamilton covers: unlimited cocktails, rum tasting, Creole food, and a master distiller tour. You can keep up with Mr. Bum on his Grog Blog. Happy Travels and Tropical Drinks!

Oh my gosh, DesertMama. We just might have to fit one of these events into our schedule this weekend.
