		<description>Even in today's world I think we get a skewed sense of how much everyday danger is really out there because "news" is now so immediate and available 24/7.

I think the best way I can protect my children is by giving them instruction in common sense and personal safety, (and a cell phone doesn't hurt).

I was raised a "free range" kid and it was a wonderful way to grow up. Granted, it's a more volatile world now, but I don't want my kids to grow up afraid of living in it. I'd rather they have a confident independence and a strong sense of self preservation to keep them safe while they enjoy life in it.</description>

		<description>You are so right!  We don't do our kids any favors by hovering (though this is an egregious example of Take My Advice, I'm Not Using It).  While the thought of letting my kids fly alone makes me have to breath into a paper bag, I did let them sit alone at a restaurant recently.  Baby steps.</description>
