Road Trippers Hit All 48 States In Four Days

May 4th Joey, Josh and Adam, three guys in their 20’s, took on a wild venture: to go on one road trip and hit all 48 contiguous states and never stop (except for gas). Josh’s father was the original planner who mapped the trip and was going to take the challenge himself several years ago. The trip never happened due to the death of his mother shorty before the journey was supposed to begin. And so the baton, or map rather, was passed on to Josh and his two buddies. The world traveled with them on their blog.

The trip began in Boston and ended at the Four Corners (Brilliant!). To make a very long story short here is what these three guys accomplished in FOUR DAYS:

  • 7,008 Miles
  • Exact time: 106 Hours and 43 Minutes
  • Saw 90 cops
  • And never got pulled over (Wow!)
  • Highest gas price: $4.15
  • Lowest gas price: $3.45
  • Showers taken: Zero (I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do.)

Congratulations, guys! While you are not mamas – you make us Traveling Mamas proud!

    Back in the 1970s, my friend and I had a project, to visit as many European countries as we could in 24 hours.

    We started at Elmpt, in Germany, and touched the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Switzerland and Italy and just failed to make it to Monaco.

    We only picked up one ‘on the spot’ fine for speeding, and that was for doing 65 kph in a 50 zone … at 2 am!

    7008 miles in 107 hours gives an AVERAGE speed of 65mph. That means they were doing 100mph some of the time. Hello-o, anybody believe this?!

    What a stupid waste of time and resources – I could understand if you did this over the course of weeks and took the time to experience all these different parts of the country — what is the point of racing through as fast as possible? I do not get it.

    Ahem…100 miles an hour in the west is not UNKNOWN, but it is not COMMON, particularly on the interstate, which, even in Wyoming where I lived 20 years and Idaho where I lived 5 years, is well patrolled. I know, I rode an Kawasaki Ninja 900 and paid waaaay more, over the years, in speeding fines than I ever did for gas.

    I do not find this claim credible.

    But I suspect the yobos did SOMETHING…perhaps they subtracted time spent fueling/eating/wanking in the washroom? Still doesn’t explain their ability to average almost the max speed limit all the way across the country…

    Could it be they decided 65 miles an hour was a reasonable speed to assume, whilst sitting at home, did the math to determine the travel time and then just stayed home–spent the 107 hours drinking awful beer and lying about how many women they’d been with? Then CLAIMED to have made the trip?

    So…here’s my suggestion–it is also not credible that a group of men that age would go ANYWHERE like that without a digital camera or at least a camera phone. Post the photos, boys…doesn’t have to be all 48 states, just enough to convince we skeptics out here who actually HAVE made this trip before.

    Oh, yes, did I forget to mention? In 1982…

    Yes…I have the photos to prove it and, no, despite going 100mph OCCASIONALLY, we did nothing even close to 107 hours, although we, too, only stopped to fuel car and eat.

    Well, yeah that YouTube video is très convaincant bien sûr, but why do they nowhere appear to be going at velocities relative to other cars that begin to suggest they could cover the 7000+ miles in 106 hours–averaging 65 mph as claimed.

    They are to be congratulated on pulling this off–and passing 90 cops without a ticket at speeds that must have been well in excess of 120 miles per hour at times to overcome gas stops and city traffic and such.

    My, my. It seems almost, ahem, unbelievable.

    This is b.s. They really only went to like 15 states. Straddling state borders and ending in the four corners got rid of like half the states by cheating. There are no perceptible geographic differences; 90% of those “state crossings” were stepping over arbitrary borders in order to add another notch to the belt. Not impressive. Not in the least.
