Hi Debbie,
Most Napa vacation homes I'm familiar with rent by the week and would soak up at least half of your $3k budget. In high season, between May 1st through October, some homes rent by the month.

There are approximately 30 delightful bed and breakfast inns in Napa Valley. Most of Napa Valley's B&B's do indeed exude the ambiance of old world charm that you are looking for.

There are some great bargains to be had right now through March with some properties offering 50% off and waiving their 3-night minimum rule.

Your husband is in for an outstanding culinary experience as some B&B's offer cooking classes. Also, the Culinary Institute of America is located in St. Helena and is open to visitors.

Check out the Craftsman Inn, Inn on First, the Napa Inn and Beazley House.

Enjoy!

Debbie, I think you might want to take a look at beautiful-places dot com. The site can help you find a private home to rent, and have an "epicurean adventure" too. I recommend that site for luxury vacations up in Sonoma and Napa.

my husband & I are considering wine country for our 10 year anniversary vacation. could you please help with some suggestions of places to stay, dining options, etc. I would love to rent a private home, for a least 3 days.

my husband is a chef & would LOVE a culinary experience also. Our budget is around $3k for 5 days. i would like the feeling of old world europe (tuscany or france) vs. contemporary large hotel chain.

Hi! I am thinking about a long weekend in late Seprember with my girlfriend. I have been to the Napa/Somona area a number of times, but she has never been. I have stayed @ Meadowwood and the Sonoma Mission Inn, most recently about 3 years ago. Would love your thoughts on other perhaps more quaint places to stay and other specific restaurant and vineyard recommendations.
Thanks
