Romantic Getaway In Solvang

By Jeff Blair Hadsten House InnWhen I opened the door to our hotel room at the Hadsten House Inn and Spa in Solvang, California one word came to mind: Exquisite. The elegant black and white designed beadspreads covered the custom Hadsten House Celestial Bed mattresses. Above the decorative fireplace was a flat-screen TV. The bathroom’s wood floor, marble counter top, curved shower curtain rod and wicker hamper brought hotel comfort to a new level.

Believe me when I say this hotel has “romantic getaway” written all over it.

Every evening the hotel offers a complimentary glass of wine, cheese and fruit to guests in the swanky, dimly lit bar where you can easily get lost in the large, comfy leather seats and couches surrounding the fireplace.

On the Hadsten property is the Haven Day Spa which offers couple massages. (This summer Hadsten Inn is offering several Spa Packages which include your choice of nights in a deluxe room, spa treatments for two, and a three course dinner for two and even champagne and chocolate strawberries, depending upon the package you choose.)

Besides gorgeous rooms, a chic restaurant and irresistible spa, Hadsten House Inn has another thing going for it: it’s within walking distance of Solvang’s charming Danish village. If you have never been to Solvang it is worth the trip.

Couples stroll the streets hand in hand, weaving through shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants, and pastry shops. Flowers line the sidewalks and windmills fill the space overhead.

One of Solvang’s special features includes various tributes to the famed author Hans Christian Anderson. A park is named after the author while a museum dedicated to his life holds an over-sized bust of Anderson and is teeming with photos, displays, a miniature replica of his childhood home. Across the street from the museum is a replica of the Copenhagen statue inspired by the fairy tale The Little Mermaid.

This is one town that is easy to get swept up in the its quaint, romantic ambiance. If fact, between your time and Hadsten House Inn and roaming the streets of Solvang you might just feel like you are in a fairy tale of your own. I did.

  1. Keith says:

Is that a real working windmill (presumably, brought over from Denmark) or a replica?

    Hi Keith,

    I believe they’re all replicas.

I ask because I can get extremely geeky about windmills … see this week’s ‘Pic of the Week’ in my blog! (plug! plug!)
