Welcome to Winning Wednesday! The Traveling Mamas love these days, when we get to tell some happy reader that he or she won a prize. This week’s giveaway contest was for the Lush Summer Olympics package, and our winner is (drum roll, please)…Dara N. Congratulations, Dara!

Mark Spitz and his Summer Olympics Gold Medals (WillfulCaboose)We asked readers to comment on their favorite Summer Olympics event. Dara wrote, “Big toss up for me between the swimming and diving events! Both of these events were my dad’s favorites and he got me hooked on them. We were even lucky enough to be at the Munich Olympics when Mark Spitz was swimming!”

Wow; lucky, indeed. Mark Spitz was amazing at the 1972 Olympics in Munich: He won seven gold medals there, the most within a single Olympic Games ever (although, as of this writing, Michael Phelps is hot on his heels). He broke speed records in the 100 meter butterfly, 200 meter butterfly, 100 meter freestyle, 200 meter freestyle, 4×100 meter freestyle relay, 4×200 meter freestyle relay, and the 4×100 meter medley relay – that’s each of the 7 competitions he swam in. It must have been amazing to have been at the Munich Olympics and witness all that record-breaking.

The 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich are usually associated with the “Black September” Palestinian terrorist attacks against Jewish athletes from Israel. It’s nice to remember that the ‘72 Olympics went on, and that Mark Spitz (a Jewish American) set new world-wide speed records and was a 7-time gold medal winner – the record for one Olympics even today, 25 years later. We’ll see if Michael Phelps can set a new record this year. I know I’ll be watching.

Dara, please email me privately through TravelingMamas’ “About” page, and I’ll get your Lush giftLush Wiccy Magic Massage Bar (Lush.com) package to you as soon as possible. Enjoy your prize!
