You Know Your Daughter Will Be A Traveling Mama When…

My kids have the travel bug. They’re always asking to go somewhere and when we travel they never ask to go home. As I watch my daughter gear up for a trip I see my “mini-me” is just that and there is no doubt she will one day will be a Traveling Mama herself.

Here are a few cues that you may also have a future Traveling Mama:

1. She Avoids Airline Hassles: When flying she insists on carrying-on her own suitcase.

2. She Knows “It’s Who You Know”: She becomes best buddies with hotel housekeepers knowing they’ll dish over extra lotion and chocolates.

3. She Knows What To Pack: She insists on bringing her “camcorder” and “cell phone” on every trip (see photo).

4. She Reaps The Hotel Rewards: She is well aware Doubletree Hotels serves warm cookies at check-in.

5. She Has A Taste For Fine Dining: While on road trips she keeps an eye out for the Golden Arches. When she spies them she says she has to go to the bathroom, with the hopes of scoring a hot fudge sundae during the stop.

6. She Studies Geography: She knows the difference between Paris, France, Paris, Texas and Paris Hilton.

7. She Understands Bribery Strategies: When playing at home, she tells her baby doll she is going on a trip, but that she will bring back a surprise.

8. Her Favorite Site is SeatGuru: She can’t wait to be 15, not for the driver’s permit, but rather so she can sit in the plane’s emergency exit row.

9. She Appreciates Bed Quality: The first thing she does upon walking into a hotel room is to test the bed quality by jumping on it.

10. She Flies Airlines With the Best Reward Program: She knows what airlines still serve peanuts, or anything for that matter.

    She’s hired!

  2. That’s such a cute list. And I can see also that she knows how to dress in style even when traveling. ;)

Love this list! My kids are all grown up, but, like your daughter, they showed tell-tale signs of becoming traveling dudes (the male equivalent of traveling mamas??) when they were still in “short pants.” I took my oldest, now 32, from Boston to Rome, Italy when he was 18 months old. He’s loved traveling ever since!

Here’s one to add: She (or in my case he) says after two weeks in Paris, “Mommy, can we go back to Paris and stay even longer next time?”

I actually was asked this question today.

Hunger made Dallas Thompson humble. His mother would visit a local food bank when her pantry grew empty, but the Lake City man never accompanied her.
