Autumn Giveaway: Win a Condo Stay in Keystone, Colorado
By MountainMama | October 2, 2008
New friends at SummitCove Vacation Lodging in Keystone, CO, want to share their lovely corner of the world with one lucky TravelingMamas reader and her (or his!) family this fall. The owners (parents of two young children) are giving away a two-night stay any time between October 8 and November 7, 2008 at one of their family-friendly, multi-bedroom condominiums in centrally located River Run Village at Keystone Resort.
Less than a a 90-minute drive from Denver, Keystone is home to world-class ski slopes. But I think the best time to visit the Colorado Rockies is in the warm-weather months. Summer is absolutely marvelous, but off-season autumn brings fewer crowds, glorious fall colors, discounted accommodations and prix-fixe menu deals at local restaurants.
Honestly, I think the fall foliage is peaking this weekend (at least here at 7,000+ feet in the Aspen area), but that doesn’t mean a trip to Keystone later this month wouldn’t be amazing! Numerous mountain trails beckon hikers and mountain bikers, or if you’re a golfer, you can hit the links at the River Course at Keystone or the Keystone Ranch Golf Course. Or perhaps you’d like to leave the kids at home, and spend the weekend with a gaggle of girlfriends. Keystone is home to a handful of day spas, and a short drive away are the Silverthorne outlet stores.
In celebration of the quiet off season, SummitCove Vacation Lodging is offering 50 percent off on any booking of two nights or more. Use the discount code “Fall08″ when you reserve online for automatic deduction. And if you don’t have plans for Thanksgiving yet, consider the “pay for 5, stay 7″ deal. So, that’s two nights free on a week-long stay. Use discount code is “ThankYou2008.”
In the meantime, if you’re feeling lucky, enter the giveaway for the complimentary two-night lodging package, by telling me in the comments section about a recent weekend getaway — who did you travel with, where’d you go, what’d you do? Leave comments until 6 p.m. (EST) Tuesday, October 7 and I’ll announce a winner on Winning Wednesday, October 8. As always, relatives of Traveling Mamas are not eligible; one entry per person, please.

I took a weekend trip to Lincoln (about 5 hours away) with my husband, preschooler, and baby. We stayed with friends — who are expecting their first later this year — and went to the farmer’s market, children’s museum, zoo, and visited with old friends. We left Thursday and returned Monday — just the right amount of time to be away.

I LOVE weekend getaways! And I’ve been itching to get to Colorado.
Last weekend I went to Big Bear (in SoCal) last minute because of a stellar cabin rental deal on craigslist. The mornings were warm, but once the sun went over the mountains it cooled off considerably and we got to use the fireplace! I traveled with my mama!

After spending our summer clipping bolts, the hub and I decided to free ourselves and learn to rock climb the trad way — with removable gear. We spent Labor Day Weekend in Estes Park with some exceptional guides with the Colorado Mountain School. (I knew I would get along with guide Eli when he yelled to me, “Now we’re climbing!” after I dropped some F-bombs on the first climb.)
The weekend was exhausting on every level. We climbed for three days in a row, taped up bloody hands and ankles, and fought the fear of falling. Every evening we satiated ourselves on cheap but classic Estes eats like giant mole burritos at Ed’s Cantina.
The best part? In one weekend, we learned the skills that will carry us on to more great weekends in Estes Park and other mountain towns. And I bet we’ll find different fat burritos when we get there.

My husband and I went up to the mountains near our home and spent the weekend in our camp trailer. It was the first time our newest dog had been up in the mountains - or ridden in a car that far. She loved it until we turned the lights out in the camper that night. Obviously it was pitch black - and she was scared of the dark! We had to sleep with a light on all night so whe wouldn’t cry.

My friend and I went to Atlantic City, NJ and spent our time relaxing at the pool in a private cabana, having delicious dinners and playing craps! It was relaxing and fun and even more so because we both came home winners! Thanks

We are two Geologists with a preschooler and a toddler. I can’t think of a better vacation than a weekend trip to Keystone. Our last weekend away was a bit of a disaster. Waterpark weekend, dad gets called into work from 8 hours away, both kids end up sick, one of our dogs escapes from the boarding kennel and our basement flooded while we were away. We would love a re-do! Thanks for the chance at an awesome give-away!

I live in NH and came out to Colorado in August with my youngest daughter to help my oldest daughter who lives near Denver with her wedding plans for next summer. We managed to work in a whirlwind trip to break from the wedding plans and “regroup” to Steamboat overnight for a hike and then an incredible horseback ride and then back to Breckenridge for another night’s stay. We found that the mountains and activities in August to be as great as the winters! What a beautiful state to call your home!

My husband had a business trip back east so we took an extra few days and stayed with our daughter and son-in-law at their new home in Alexandria, VA. It didn’t feel like autumn, but how can VA compare with CO?

We love to camp any chance we get. Our last outing, we were told if we take the dirt road out of the industrial park on the south side of town for around 60 miles, we’d end up at a very primitive part of the Grand Canyon. My fiance and I packed up the dogs, and hit the road! They were right! It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen! We only stayed one night, but we did the usual campfire things, smores, hot dogs and ghost stories!

I feel lucky.
Our weekend? We went with lots of close friends out to the Washington Coast to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our friends’ beautiful and unconventional family. We had a big group dinner, wandered around in our jammies at breakfast time, passed around the cute cute babies, hiked in the rain forest, soaked in the hot tub, and ate way too many snacks. Perfection.

My last weekend getaway was in March with my husband. We traveled to Las Vegas 9for a trade show) then on to “our time” in San Fran, CA! It was awesome. We really just spent some time together, checking out the sites and walking and talking. We love to travel with our boys (ages 14, 10 and 3), but it was nice to have some time together, just us. We last went to CO about 16 years ago on our honeymoon…it’s beautiful!
