Anybody who is not discounting their available rooms right now is just not in tune with the economy! We currently have 35 units available in Keystone, CO for Thanksgiving and they are 35% of the regular price. Next week we will probably give even deeper discounts. As Christmas gets closer, we will probably discount available units then as well.

hotel accommodations might be more expensive in big cities like New York, San Francisco, Boston or Los Angeles, but again, lots for all ages to see and do. Think of the fun window shopping, with department stores brightly lit and decorated for the holidays!

LoyaltyTraveler - Nice tip about urban hotels for holiday travel. Unfortunately, I didn't find that for our NYC Thanksgiving trip. Room rate spiked for Turkey Day.

An urban trip during the Christmas holiday season can often be near the lowest hotel rates of the year for upscale and luxury center city hotels. Last year I booked several nights in San Francisco at the Westin St. Francis for $100 per night, 30 to 40% of average rates.

When business travel declines during the holidays the large city hotels discount rooms to attract leisure travelers.

One of my very favorite Christmas holidays was spent in a rented home in a little vacation town here in Illinois (Galena). It snowed that year and our Floridian relatives' kids hadn't seen it before and we all went sledding. It was about as magical as it gets.

This year, we're traveling to Orlando for Thanksgiving (hold me), so we won't be going anywhere for Christmas. But if I could? I'd totally stay at the Inn at Yellowstone one year.

We looked into doing a cruise or Mexico with our extended family over Christmas a few years ago. The prices changed our minds VERY quickly.

Which is why we just blew thousands of dollars to go see Grandma in Canada for Christmas. :-)
