Nancy, there is definitely hope! BTW, I forgot to say the 12 people we took with us to Jamaica were our children and their significant others. Best trip ever. Best use of our money. I’m so glad we spent a bit of our cash rather than saving every cent of it for retirement–especially now with the financial markets sliding into oblivion.

Your postings always bring back such memories. I remember well those “take a friend along for each child” days followed by the “teens traveling alone with school groups” period. Now, with our kids ranging in age from 25 to 33, my husband and I usually travel alone or with friends. But after 9-11 we broke the bank and rented a villa for 12 in Jamaica. It was the best money we ever spent.

great interview. I enjoy all of your interviews. It does make you wonder if travel writing is really a great career. i think it's great as a side gig, however, full on might be really tough on the family. MuchaCostaRica

Your column brings back such memories. Like Nancy, we used to travel by car with our kids all the time. Then the grandkids. Only yesterday my husband found a picture of him on a cruise with our grandson who is now in Iraq. Such memories!
