On the Move Approved – Printstik Mobile Printer, for Business Travel

Other posts by MudslideMama

Traveling Mamas aren’t only family vacation lovers; many of us juggle work and kids – and business trips are within the scope of our multifaceted lives. As just such a mom myself, I’m always on the lookout for gadgets that will make work travel easier.

For those of us who still feel more secure about our travel plans with printouts we can physically touch, I like the Printstik Mobile Printer. It’s a portable, little, one-piece-of-paper-at-a-time printer, perfect for printing our boarding passes and hotel receipts as we go. Yes, the more technologically advanced among us are happy to go paperless, and that is definitely the more ecologically sound route. But I’m not the only one who feels safer with actual printouts for travel, and the Printstik truly works well. It uses thermal paper, but the curse of curled edges is gone. People who don’t like thermal paper for fax machines will see that the Printstik print quality is far superior. It doesn’t curl up – not in the few days since I tested it, anyway – and thermal technology means less consumer waste (it doesn’t use ink).

Planon is the company that makes Printstik Mobile Printers. The website lists the following features:
- Bluetooth® connectivity, print from your laptop, BLACKBERRY
- Prints characters and graphics clearly (no smudging) – and no leaking ink
- Printing speed up to three pages per minute
- Pocket size – including a cartridge roll of 20 pages and battery
- Minimal moving parts for printing, designed ruggedly for portable reliability
- Little or no maintenance necessary, regardless of usage cycle
- Flexibility to adapt to common platforms
- Consumables are minimal, cost efficient

This is solid: At just under a foot long and with a one-pound weight, the Printstik is Windows compatible, Bluetooth-enabled, and self-powered. No more ink, toner or ribbons! Business travelers can import information from their Blackberries and other PDAs. A battery and USB port makes it very easy to travel with, for those of us who need to print “on the go.” For Traveling Mamas who have work trips, consider it On the Move Approved.

What an awesome gadget! Now that is what I need, for many reasons, but printing boarding passes is at the top of my list. Nice find, Mudslide.

I could’ve used that on one of my recent trips where the hotel printer was broken. It would have saved me lots of time at the airport that morning.
