Winter Ski Gear – Performance Socks & Apres-Ski Boots

Other posts by MountainMama

Who’s got a ski trip on the agenda this year? Since our Colorado home is about 30 minutes from some of the best slopes in the county, our family doesn’t travel to ski. But there are a couple of new items going in my ski bag this year that I wanted to share with Traveling Mamas’ readers. (You know I’m sorta obsessed with shoes and socks, so I suppose it’s not that surprising I wanted to chime in with some cold-weather options!)

The Anatomical Performance Fit line by PowerSox are my ski socks of choice this season. I’ve got a pair of the new SnowSport style made of Merino wool, acrylic, nylon and Lycra — a combination designed to keep feet warm, while wicking sweat and keeping them dry. Support and cushioning is built in just where you need it, and the socks are “anatomically correct”: there’s a left and a right.

I’ve worn my new pair a couple times hiking in cold weather and they are super comfortable — sometimes “support bands” around the foot are too tight in athletic socks, but this one is just right. I look forward to pairing them with ski boots over the holidays.

Speaking of comfortable, my new shearling-lined, rubber-soled Sorel boots are like slippers. Really. This cute boot is what I’ll wear to the slopes, leave in the lodge, and then slide on for apres-ski fun.

These boots aren’t meant to sludge around in the deep snow, but rather for keeping warm and dry while strolling around ski-resort towns — from Aspen to Whistler, Park City to Stowe. This Pakua style is light and flexible enough to pack in a suitcase, for sure.

Here’s to loads of snowfall this winter!
