Great Holiday Gift Ideas From Hawaii

Other posts by MudslideMama

The Mudslide family is feeling very, very lucky to be able to spend Christmas week in Hawaii, especially since we’ll be joined by one of our sets of grandparents for the first half. MudslideDad and I are working overtime to make sure our kids know how fortunate they are in all things, especially their family travel experiences. We may be going a bit overboard; lately we’ve gotten some eye rolls in response. Ah, tweens! Is there nothing you can’t denigrate? And this is after we were presented with a pretty thorough holiday gift ideas from them. Sorry, 9-year old, you’re not getting your own Blackberry this year. Stop with the eye rolls, and we’ll talk.

We’re going to be buying some holiday gifts for our friends and family while on the Big Island and Kauai, as befits the time of year. One of Hawaii’s most popular travel websites, Hawaii.com, has some great gift ideas for us – and in fact, these real Hawaiian gift ideas can be ordered through the website, so anyone can “give the gift of aloha” (as they say).

Great Holiday Gift Ideas from Hawaii:

Big Island Candies - There are chocolate macadamia nuts here, of course (can’t have a Hawaiian foodstuffs site without macadamia nuts!). Gift baskets can also include shortbreads, truffles, and brownies, and all gift basket items incorporate ingredients from the Hawaiian islands.

Blooms of Hawaii - Orders are shipped directly and quickly, to ensure freshness upon arrival. I love the idea of a real Hawaiian lei in the middle of winter. Tropical flowers and bouquets of many varieties are available here, and there’s a holiday special through the website.

Specialty Foods Hawaii - There are jams and jellies, marinades, dressing, cookies (with macadamia nuts, naturally) and sauces here. Gift baskets combine various Hawaiian specialty foods, only some of which I’ve sampled. It’s a great gift idea, though, to give something a step above the usual Cracker Barrel gift basket.

Hawaiian Kine Stuff - I’ve got to include this, since so many tourists in Hawaii end up wanting the dashboard hula girl dolls. This is where to get the typical Hawaiian gift shop gifts, without actually stepping foot in one. Also available: Hawaiian print shirts, kukui bead and shell necklaces, plastic leis, children’s ukeleles, and all the Hawaii gift shop items under the sun.

Lanakai Bath and Body - Lanakai is on Oahu, but the gifts feel and smell great anywhere. Lanakai Bath and Body uses all-natural (organic when possible) ingredients in its bath and body products, and I especially like the body butters. There are also perfumes, and products for babies and pets. Bonus for the holidays: Gift wrapping is free!

A Christmas family vacation in Hawaii is a gift in itself. But these great gift basket ideas from Hawaii, being authentic to the islands, are also recommended for anyone who loves special, authentic island gifts for the holidays.
