Wow!

Beautiful article/post! I've been in Hawaii many times (used to live on Guam and had to fly through Hawaii every trip to the mainland)... and in the town of Waimea (and at Waimea Canyon) twice.

I haven't walked there in the rain, but it sounds like it would be a lot of fun and more interesting. Each time we've been in Kauai (relatives and friends live there), we've rented a car to visit Princeville, Kapaa, Lihue, Waimea, Poipu...

The Pali (cliffs) around the Northwest shore are absolutely fantastic as well. Get there by cataramaran or sailboat (no roads to get there). Perfect beaches, tropical foilage, interesting wildlife... paradise at its best!

Thanks for this post--I'm definitely making plans to visit Kauai again (this time... in the rain!)

Aloha!

This is my absolute favorite hike I've ever done. As a child I grew up visiting Kauai every summer and we would always do this hike. I took my husband there last year for the first time and he was absolutely amazed. And we do a lot of hiking here in Utah. There is nothing like the Waimea Canyon Trails.

Okay, you've convinced me, I'll go to Hawaii. As much as I've traveled, I'm not a sit on the beach kind of girl, I like to return from my vacations physically exhausted, but completely rejuvenated. While my daughter has asked to go to Hawaii over and over again, I've always answered "it's not on the list." You've shown me I can do that and have plenty of adventure. My daughter thanks you.
