Are you kidding? .... Even under construction Sunset Key is 800 a night. Which family do you have in mind here? These are not recommendations with wide appeal because of the cost alone! Nice luxury choices, but where are the family choices during a recession!?!

Yiks! Who can spend that kind of money just for the hotel on a family vacation. Anyone can find a nice place for $1000 a night. The challenge is finding one for $300 a night.

That stuffed French Toast looks so... sinful, gotta get me one of those! Sunset Key looks nice, but hey, if you're gonna have a luxury vacation, you gotta spend to make it a good one right?

I second your vote for Cheeca Lodge! We've stayed there several times (with and without kids) and it's a very family-friendly resort. My kids love the Keys because there's so much for them to do on, near and under the water.

There's a kayak outfitter right in Islamorada that offers great guided kayak tours into the mangroves (Back Country Cowboy). We've gone on snorkeling trips from Bud 'n Mary's Marina. And the kids love to feed the tarpon (and watch for manatees) at Robbie's. Plus, if you have a car, drive a little further south and do a dolphin swim at Hawk's Cay Resort.
