TravelingMamas Photos: Why I Love The Window Seat

Other posts by DesertMama

I love sitting by the window when I fly and not only because I sleep better, but because I love the views of take-off, landing, and all that’s in-between like lakes, sunsets, crop circles and of course seeing other aircrafts whiz by. You can bet I always have my camera in hand and while the lighting isn’t always ideal for the perfect aerial shot, I do my best. Below are a few of my “window seat shots” from the last year including Lexington, Kentucky and Turks and Caicos. While the last photo is the poorest quality of the batch, it’s also the only one with my Tucson home in it. See my kids playing in the backyard?

  1. Great pictures! I don’t know why but I have never liked sitting by the window seat. Love to fly but must have the isle if at all possible. Hubby likes the window so we always have to hope we get a section to ourselves with an empty seat in the middle ha ha

Love the beautiful blue water. Can’t wait to get back to the Caribbean in Dec. Heading back to Jamaica.

I love the window seat too! Even thought it’s harder to crawl over people to get to the restroom, it’s well worth it for the views. Great shots! Oh, and nice backyard :-)

It’s the window seat or no seat :) for me. I remember one memory as a young girl of sipping some tea and looking out over the clouds, and I thought this is the life for me….

Angie – You’re not alone, I know a lot of “aisle only” people and there is nothing better than an empty middle seat.

Irv – Thanks, you should see my sunflowers sprouting. lol!

Carolina – I can relate. I was sitting in a window seat on a night flight from the Bay Area (I was in the 5th grade). I looked at the flight attendant then looked at the city lights below and that’s the moment I decided I wanted to be a flight attendant.

I love the cloud field. Much as I like looking at them for real (odd, I know) it’s never occurred to me to take a picture of the clouds.
My favorite airplane pictures are from when a purported “Kids” yoga vacation in Mexico (with Marcia Wenig) turned out to be anything but (Oaxaca may have some preschooler-friendly spots, but none of them were close to our hotel and field trips included a tequilla factory and an afternoon riding galloping horses bareback), so we booked a last minute escape to go to the ocean which was real magic. I had not budgeted for the flight, but am so glad we did it! It was a very small plane, and we were up front right next to the pilot. I wasn’t getting very good shots of the mountains below, so he took the camera and shot a few beautiful pictures–while flying the plane!

Wonderful photos. As a pilot I refuse to fly in a seat that does not give me a great view. I always bring along aviation sectionals so when I take a photo of a beautiful site I can determine what specifically I was photographing.

I just returned from a trip from Chicago to Las Vegas and loved the views of the mountains and the plains of Nevada.

I am all about the window seat. I love looking for landmarks from the sky. Its usually a heck of alot better than the in flight movie.
