Black & Decker 100 Watt Power Inverter Giveaway

Other posts by MountainMama

I had no idea this product existed, and I want one. The Black & Decker 100 Watt Power Inverter plugs into the 12-Volt AC Adapter (cigarette lighter) in your car and becomes a household power outlet to allow you to recharge (and use) your laptop, mp3 player, cell phone and… the kids’ hand-held video-game players and portable DVD players! The Power Inverter also has a USB port for more recharging options. NICE!

Are you coveting this handy item, too? Lucky you can win one. Just leave a comment below detailing what you’d plug into this baby. Me? I’d use it to recharge a dead laptop, but not so I could use the computer in the passenger seat. I get too carsick reading anything (in print or on screen) in the car. So, for my family, I think the Power Inverter would come in most handy with the kids on long road trips. They could continue to play their Nintendo DS games even after the battery juice runs out.

I’ll run a random-number generator Tuesday at 6 p.m. (EST) to determine a winner from the comments. U.S. residents only; no family members of Traveling Members are eligible. I’ll announce the winner’s name on Winning Wednesday, March 18.

Good luck!

  1. Christie Jensen says:

I would use it for Ipods, future laptop and all of my kids items.

  2. Anna O says:

I’d use it for my laptop too since mine has apparently developed an aversion to running on batteries and a charge lasts about 10 minutes. It’d also be great to charge my MP3 player – I hate it when the battery dies 1-hour in to a 5-hour trip.

  3. Amy Long says:

I would use it for my laptop, to recharge my phone and for a blender to make a nice frozen drink when I reach my destination. Is that wrong?

  4. Debi Kuhn says:

Oh, my gosh, what I could do with that power inverter. I’d be able to use my laptop while on the road. My biggest ‘WANT’ is actually an i-phone with full service package so I can Google ANYTHING, ANYTIME. This would be a good inexpensive (and within my budget) solution.

Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me!

    Thanks
    Debi

  8. jill says:

We have a less fancy one from Canadian Tire. We use it as a heater, when I can find it. (What the picture doesn’t show is the hot air blowing out the back).

I didn’t know it had such an elegant name. We call it the “where’s-the-thing-you-plug-stuff-into-in-the-car?” or, “where-did-YOU-put-the-thing-you-plug-stuff-into-in-the-car?”.

    Love your blog ;-)

  9. Robyn Hawk says:

  13. Sharon Davis says:

I recently tried out a product very much like this on a drive from Missouri to western Colorado. I was afraid that 18 hours of driving with a 17-month-old would be utter hell, but the power inverter made all the difference. We plugged it into a Playstation 2 with an auxiliary screen attached, but a laptop would have served the same purpose. Whenever the baby got bored and fussy, we simply popped in a Baby Einstein DVD and he was mesmerized. When he was asleep, I eased my own boredom with favorite movies, and my husband played video games that evening in the hotel. For a relatively small investment, the combination of the power inverter and used PS2 with screen gave us a flexible and invaluable source of entertainment for the whole family.

I would give this to my daughter and I’m sure they would use it to recharge their portable DVD player for the kids. The DVD player comes in handy when traveling to Grandma’s house which is a 8 hour trip.

  82. I would use it to power my house. Whenever the wind blows around here the power goes out. Okay, maybe it doesn’t go out that frequently but when it does we feel very isolated from the world. Without power, our computers don’t work which means we don’t have Internet access and all 7 people in the house including the 3 year old sit in a fetal position on the floor rocking back and forth wondering about all the links on http://popurls.com that are speeding by without us. Okay, maybe the car won’t be able to power the whole house. I think the refrigerator would be asking too much. Perhaps it would power a single computer. Then we could still be connected to the Internet except that if the power was out that probably means a tree fell across the lines which means the cable would be out and even if the computer had power we wouldn’t have Internet access and would still not know everyone’s status on Facebook. But wait! We could dongle our cellphones to the computers as modems with phone chargers plugged in along with the computers to the Black & Decker 100 Watt Power Inverter and be connected again! We would be able to Twitter and feel like part of the global mind again. All because we won a Black & Decker 100 Watt Power Inverter from Traveling Mamas.

Okay. A couple of notes: 1) yes, when the power goes out we stay connected with Twitter on the phones anyway and 2) I would most likely use the power inverter for a) powering a laptop for mobile computing and b) powering a boombox with the family at the drive-in movie.

    Thanks Traveling Mamas!
