Crocs – The Best Family Travel Shoes

Other posts by DesertMama

The “best travel shoes” is a subject that arises often. And why wouldn’t it? You have to pack them, wear them and pretty much are stuck with them the entire trip unless you plan on purchasing a pair on the road. That’s why this post is about Crocs – my favorite family travel shoes.
Crocs

When Crocs contacted me to check out their new spring line to see how terrific they are as travel shoes, I jumped at the chance. My family is not new to Crocs. In fact, we call them Croc-a-doodle-doos in our home.

Plus, my kids are suckers for Crocs because they are easy to slip on and off (no ties) and they collect those cute little Jibbitz that snap into the holes (Denver Crocs City Tour has Mile-High City inspired charms at several city attractions).

The cool part, Crocs keep getting more and more stylish — beyond the traditional funky, brightly colored original Crocs clogs that were all the buzz a few years back when they first launched. Today, for the ladies, Crocs come in various styles from the more traditional Mary-Jane style to flip-flops (so  comfortable) to heels and wedges. Men have a choice of manly styles like the Tideline Canvas or Santa Cruz slip-ons (my husband couldn’t believe these were Crocs).

2160_1_berrypearlThe kids styles are so much fun! My all-pink-and-lace-girl pointed right to the Disney Sleeping Beauty Mary Jane and since getting them, I don’t think she has taken them off yet. My son snagged up the Scooby-Doo Hanna-Barbera style, which makes finding them a ton of fun when they’re lost: Scooby-Scooby-Doo, where are you?

Here are just a few reasons I adore Crocs for travel (the kids wore them the entire time we were in Phoenix last week):

1. Crocs are easy to slip on and off at airport security and for pit stops on road trips.

2. Crocs don’t stink when the kids take them off in the car (whoo-hoo!).

3. Crocs have every color to match every outfit in the kids’ (and my) closets.

4. Crocs are super comfortable for mom, dad and the kids and they never leave blisters.

5. Crocs are so light, making them easy to pack.

Crocs in Quebec City6. If you wish to buy Crocs while traveling — you can! They’re everywhere, even in airports. If you look to the right, you’ll see I stumbled upon a store in Quebec City, Canada.

7. When my brother Paul and I were on a road trip in 1994 we were driving through the sunflower fields of Kansas when we saw a barn with “Happiness is Crock of Beans.” Since then I’ve come up with my own phrase, “Happiness is a Box of Crocs” (or maybe a few boxes).

8. Crocs are simply the best family travel shoes.

I always thought Crocs were too pricey but today I checked out there website. What I found is that they’ve got a bunch of items that are at “outlet” prices. Woohoo! I ended up order a couple for my kids and a pair for myself.

… but I wonder why the ‘Buy one, get one free’ sign is only in French?

Kind of reminds me of the Welsh bingo hall that promised double prize money to English winners … the caller read out the numbers:

‘Un ar deg; pedwar ar pimp ….’

We always take our Crocs along. They are so versatile – the kids just live in them when we travel. Great at the beach, great for walking, light to pack, dry out in no time …

My son just stepped out the door wearing Crocs to his outdoor water fun field trip. He would wear them everyday if I let him.

When you move to MSP, you will likely get introduced to the Mammoth style — we call them “fuzzy Crocs” for winter weather. My kids love ‘em.

  7. So, silly question. I had a pair of very comfortable croc slippers (flip-flops). Loved them. But, as they sat out in the sun, they slowly shrunk and twisted out of shape. Has this happened to you? I finally got rid of them because they got too small. I suppose this could be remedied by bringing them inside, but I thought this was the strangest shoe phenomenon ever!

  8. But do they have any proper support for your feet? I know that I want proper arch support etc for my feet (and my kids) when I’m doing a lot of walking, or there’s going to be a lot of pain at some point in the future…

Kris, that’s crazy. I haven’t heard of such a thing. Might have to research that one.

ETWK, I’ve always heard they were a much better alternative to flip-flops for support reasons. I do know a lot of nurses and ER workers who wear them during their long shifts, so the support must be pretty good.

When we travel, I have problems with my feet swelling….then blisters….then other problems…resulting in trips to the hospital, in foreign countries. Once I found Crocs…I have not turned back! If your feet swell, Crocs stretch, no hard edges, means no blisters…and no trips to the hospital.

I have multiple styles that I love, and people are always amazed that I’m wearing Crocs.

Im wearing Cyprus and I wear it at all times, i fell very comfy in this high heels. Hours of walking but my leg doesn’t aching. All of my family are wearing it…

Have seen several warnings about wearing CROCS on escalators, the shoes are getting stuck on the side and at the top and bottom of these roling stairs. They have mutilated the feet of several children. Please be careful and take off your CROCS on these escalators.

    To answer Keith..
Here in Quebec the law states that French must be twice as big as english in adverstising. You don’t need to write the english but you must write french…

ps i love crocs too..i have the santa cruz for women in beige canvas, and they have been with me all across my road trip from Montreal to Vancouver, canada! so comfy, but i wear them so much that they are starting to fall apart. I am trying to look for another pair but it seems that they are all sold out everywhere..anyone know where I could find these in 8’s?
