Blue Bunny Raspberry Today kicks off National Ice Cream Month and Traveling Mamas gets to participate in the fun by teaming with Blue Bunny Ice Cream and offering a giveaway of…you guessed it! Ice cream!

You might be wondering what ice cream has to do with travel, besides being the perfect snack along the journey (especially if you’re road-tripping in the hot summer months). Well, if you’re traveling through the Midwest with kids (or without!), you don’t want to miss Le Mars, Iowa, home tovisitorcenter the Ice Cream Capital of the World Museum. More ice cream is made in Le Mars – home of Blue Bunny – than anywhere else in the world. Families can stop during a road trip, or take a side trip while visiting Sioux City (25 miles south of the museum) and learn all types of fun ice cream facts, play in an interactive game room and devour ice cream in the vintage 1920s-style ice cream parlor. (Cost to tour is minimal: $3 for adults and $1 for children age 5 to 12. The little ones are free.)

We are giving away FIVE Bunny Bucks coupons, that’s five cartons of ice cream or five boxes of novelty ice cream treats (like ice cream sandwiches) to ONE Traveling Mamas reader.     I just had dental work done that left a tooth on both sides of my mouth sensitive to cold, but I don’t care. I am going to eat ice cream through the pain because I love it so much.

    Mmmm, my favorite ice cream is still bubblegum from Baskin Robbins. Haha, my husband thinks I’m such a kid when I eat ice cream. I like to put all the bubblegum on the side and eat it after I finish the delicious ice cream. Yummy!

    love that ice cream is affordable and comes in a varity of flavors sure to please anyone- love they have ice cream..low fat and yogurt too. I love it tastes good even in the winter…whether you are sick or healthy- its a pleaser

    Any kind with chocolate in it works for me, but strawberry is also a big favorite! We had ice cream as a treat when I was a kid except it was usually neapolitan so everyone got their faves!

    As an elementary school classroom teacher each year I take my students for a tour of a generous local ice cream manufacturer. We get to see every step of the creation of our favorite treats. In the storage room men drive loading machines in a facility kept so cold that it actually snows.

    At the conclusion of a tour each student is given a free ice cream cone (each teacher, too!). My favorite flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip.

    Stewarts used to make a variety called Tin Lizzy Sundae- it was vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered peanuts, ripples of fudge, and ripples of caramel – yum!! But they don’t make it any more – boo hoo.
    I am able to find Tin Roof Sundae- similar to the above, but no caramel swirl.

    What does traveling have to do with ice cream? What is vacation for if it isn’t for having ice cream every day! Or, if you’re in Italy, gelato several times a day. Best in the world – Vivoli’s in Florence. I say that because I’ve just finished many taste tests.

    I love, love, love Blue Bunny ice cream! In my humble opinion, it is the best ice cream money can buy…and my favorite Blue Bunny flavor is Bunny Tracks…I have been known to eat an entire carton myself! It’s that good!

    My favorite flavor is Strawberry Cheesecake. I can only find it occasionally so it is a real treat when I do. Even my adult children think of it as a special treat when they come see me since ice cream is not regularly on their menus.

    Guess what I had after my lunch today? It was cherry cobbler covered with my favorite Blue Bunny Vanilla Ice Cream. Vanilla is my favorite flavor because it’s use is so easy to pair up with many other dessert favorites. Yet, I love almost every flavor of ice cream out there. Hope I win. Good luck to all.

    With 8 grandchildren, I go through a ton of ice cream each week around here. There’s not a day without kids at Nana’s house and that means bowls of ice cream and chocolate syrup! The favorite around here right now is Mint Chip.

    Ice cream is to me as water is to some people: I can’t live without it.

    Growing up, Dad always made our ice cream. It was cheaper and an occasional treat.
    As an adult, you will find ice cream in my freezer all the time. Sometimes I’ll have several gallons, plus a couple boxes of novelty.

    As with so many other places, I have never been to the LeMars ice cream museum, even though I grew up only about 30 miles from there. Even when going to MN for visits after I was ‘out in the world’, we drove through LeMars all the time. Just never realized the museum was even there I guess. But I did realize Blue Bunny was made there–can’t miss the factory sign going through town!

    I remember when I was little, and I was sick, my mother would go to the candy store and buy a Gill of vanilla ice cream to make me feel better…and it always DID! And I STILL love just plain vanilla ice cream. It’s better than all those fancy flavors, to me.

    My favorite childhood memory of ice cream is seeing my grandpa churning the ice cream maker. He would stand down in the basement where it was cooler and turn the handle while we kids sat at the top of the stairs and drooled over the anticipated treat!

    I love ice cream so was very happy when I started my first paying job dipping ice cream in a small dairy bar in PA. I used to love piling on the toppings for sundaes. It’s amazing the combinations people ask for. My favorite was (and still is) a hot fudge, wet nut, marshmallow sundae! Of course, a double chocolate fudge scoop in a sugar cone wouldn’t go amiss either! ;)

    We can only buy chocolate ice cream since my furry kitty FatBob only likes chocolate. No reduced fat or sugar-free either. Only chocolate. I don’t feel as guilty when the carton is gone after two days, I blame it on the cat.

    To this day….X years later….The ice cream I had on my first trip to England was the best. It was November and we were visiting Windsor Castle. I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cone and it was the best ever. It was the first of many pinch-me travel experiences! Was I really in England? Did I really celebrate my 18th birthday by visiting Westminster Abbey? Were those cute Swedish soccer players really inviting us out for a night of dancing at a club on Piccadilly Circus?     When I was in the Army as a Combat Medic stationed in Southwest Asia I dreamed of ice cream all the time. I would remember when we were growing up my Dad would go to the store and buy everything to make banana splits; the best part was you got to make your own. I love my ice cream.

    This is kind of a strange ice cream comment. My mother died 2 years ago at the age of 85. For thirty years she had been unable to eat ice cream ( or much of anything really, especially sweets ) due to stomach surgery she had in the 70s. The last year of her life she was finally put on medicine that allowed her to eat almost anything. Every single evening of that last year she ate ice cream. It brought her so much joy, you just wouldn’t believe. I always think of her now when I have ice cream.

    When I was a teenager, I was lucky to land a job at the local Baskin Robbins. People told me that I would get tired of ice cream. Never happened! I tried all the flavors at Baskin Robbins. It was a great job and I still love ice cream!

    My favorite ice cream memory is when I was young every fall we would go pumpkin picking and on the way home we would stop at a small ice cream shop and get pumpkin ice cream. Then we would all eat it and my siblings and I would run around. It was the only time of year we would get pumpkin ice cream and I still get the ice cream every fall with my kids.

    My fave ice cream memory is when Dawn was little and had her first dog- Tramper. She was sharing her cone with him and doing fine til he started to take a bite she said no, no Tramp, just lick it or you have to have your own, we can’t share… ever since then that’s all the two of them have done. I know it is gross but it was precious.

    I love ice cream, with toppings or without. Doesn’t matter. My favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip. And, yes, Blue Bunny does make some of the best!

    Licking the most wonderful pineapple ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s in Hawaii was a daily tradition we savored every night before turning in for the night…I can almost taste it now! I have not had it since then but I will also never forget it. I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream!

    I was at the state fair and there was an ice cream stand with soft serve. I purchased the biggest cone with chocolate and vanilla swirl dipped in chocolate.
    Best tasting cone I’ve ever had.

    My family and I used to walk to the ice cream store near our house once a week. I always got the clown. It was a scoop of ice cream with the cone on top, like a hat!

    I have so many happy ice cream memories. When we would visit my grandfather he would always take me for strawberry ice cream cones. Strawberry wasn’t my favorite; it was his, but I enjoyed it anyway.
    My mother and I often traveled with my cousin when we visited family out of state. He would stop at Dairy Queen and we would get dipped cones. That was my first experience with a hard shell topping.
    My dad loved to make home made ice cream. We would fill the outer bucket with ice, my mom would pour the ice cream mixture inside the container, put the paddle in place and we would turn the crank until it just would turn any more. Then my dad would finish it. I loved eating freshly made ice cream.
    Now my ice cream of choice is Blue Bunny. I don’t live too far from the original location so Blue Bunny is the most popular ice cream brand in town. I love all the flavors but my absolute favorite is Tin Roof Sundae. Yum!

    Well in all honesty we LOVE Cold Stone Creamery, but when we buy ice cream at the grocery store we are big Blue Bunny fans.     Well I have to say never been a huge ice cream fan, but this year at my elementary school they served Blue Bunny ice cream and the double strawberry looked really good so I had a little scoop…. :0) Since then it has been all about that brand and flavor WOW!
