October is a great time to visit the Gulf Coast: Kids are back in school, the weather is beginning to cool off, and the beaches are lesss crowded. Plus, with all the travel deals available and events going on, it’s more affordable than ever to visit the gulf coast beach communities. Here are some of the deals and events to help you plan a quick getaway to the gulf coast.

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama  – Fantastic rates at various properties along the Alabama beaches can be had for any type of lodging. There are some wonderful FREE Gulf Coast concerts coming up, including Bon Jovi and Brad Paisley (which are ticketed events). A few condos, such as Turquoise Place, are offering a limited number of tickets with each booking.

Pensacola Beach, Florida – De Luna Fest is a three day festival (Oct 15-17) with an outstanding lineup of artists. Stone Temple Pilots, Willie Nelson, Daughtry, Bush, and many more artists will perform and entertain. Portofino Island is offering lodging packages with tickets to the festival and shuttle service, providing a relaxing, stress free weekend of fun for visitors.

Sandestin, Florida – This destination resort offers a wide array of activities for every background. If you like brews, then you’ll want to check out BeerFest: The Baytowne Wharf Beer Festival at Sandestin on October 23. The lodging deals are being offered throughout the fall and holiday season. I can personally attest to how fabulous this place is. Once you park your vehicle, you won’t have to get back in it until you’re ready to depart for home.

The Beaches of South WaltonAutumn Tides is the time of year to check out the colors of the various beachside communities along the beaches of this area. Each community has its own personality and atmosphere. Seaside is one of the most well-known, being the setting for The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey. I’ve spent some time at The WaterColor Inn and explored the community by foot with a relaxing, personal retreat. The areas newest community, Alys Beach, is a design-savvy and fashionable with its white, beachfront architecture. Check out all the events going on in the 15 communities of this area (including Sandestin). I’m making plans to check out the Seeing Red Wine Festival in November.

These are just a handful of the many events going on along the gulf coast this fall. The fall season is just right for golf, hiking, kayaking, and exploring the outdoors of the various resorts and state parks dotted along the beaches of the gulf coast area.
