Traveling Mamas

Inspiring you to explore our world

  • The other night I was thinking about how long it’s been since I had really been out of the house. I wanted a change of scenery and just one night of relaxing and not having to worry about feeding the dog, scrounging up change for my daughter to take to school, or looking at dirty dishes.

Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, Louisiana is less than a two hour drive from my home. I’ve been there a few times with the family and always lusted after the spa. I just never had a chance to check it out. The PR firm that represents the casino has always had an open invitation for me to visit, at my convenience. I took them up on the offer of getting away for a few nights and met them at the casino.

Lucky for me, a spa experience was included. I had the swedish massage, because I didn’t need anything too fancy. They do have a few signature treatments, including the Southern Comfort Massage, Crushed Pearl Facial, and even a 6 1/2 hour Full House package. The spa was much nicer than I expected and gave me a chance to relax.

Paragon Casino Resort has onsite childcare , and arcade for the bigger kids, lots of shops, an indoor heated pool, outdoor pool, golf course, a movie theater, and lots of dining options. Of course, there is a casino, but for those who aren’t into gambling, this Louisiana resort is a great spot for a quick getaway.

Special thanks to Paragon Casino for hosting my relaxing mama getaway.

  • It is officially October and that means beautiful colors are beginning to embark over the Mountains of NC. I was able to experience this first hand this past weekend at the beautiful Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, NC.

Chetola Resort is home to 87 beautiful acres that will leave you amazed. There are many choices to choose from when choosing your accomodations at Chetola, they are: Chetola Lodge, Chetola Condominiums or The Bob Timberlake Inn. We were guests at the Chetola Condominiums this past wonderful fall weekend.

As soon as we opened the door, we were in love at first sight!

We stayed in the 1 Bedroom Condominium which consisted of a king bed, full bath, washer/dyer, full kitchen, queen size sleeper sofa, and a fireplace. (approx. 885 sq ft.) You can choose from a 1, 2, 3, or 4 bedroom option. The country decor made us all smile and gave us that warm hearted feeling. Wood features could be found throughout the house.

The living room was very spacious and detailed with rustic furnishings. The fireplace added a special spark that made the room even more cozier and inviting.

The kitchen was well equipped with all your dishes, pots and pans, utensils, and appliances needed for a special meal you would like to create for your family.

The bathroom was spacious. You did not have to worry about tight quarters and it was decorated with black bears that just made you feel welcome into the home.

Finishing our tour of the inside area with the bedroom. The bed was amazingly super soft. You laid your head down and you did not move the rest of the night! The decor in the bedroom went right along with the country theme throughout the house. There was a television as well in the bedroom complete with a DVD player.

Each morning and evening, we would take a walk onto the balcony to feel the cool fresh crisp air and take in the beautiful scenery surrounding the condominiums. The fall foliage is just now beginning to take place in the area as you will see the yellows and reds peeping through all the green. It was beautiful beyond words. I cannot wait to see the full effect of all the colors take place throughout the month of October!

I will have to say October is the prime month for the fall foliage in the NC mountains. I will be doing weekly updates here on Traveling Mamas to showcase how the colors are progressing throughout the month. has scenic drives mapped out for you to take you through some of the most beautiful areas in the mountains to view the fall colors. I highly recommend the High Country area of NC.

Mid-month is usually when the fall colors begin to take control from all the green and give you a breathtaking view. I love how Chetola has the balconies included in their condominiums so you can sit outside and take the view in from morning till night. The scenery is just amazing all around the 87 acre property.

If you would like to reserve accomodations at Chetola or other NC properties, make sure to visit the exclusive deals page on to save money on all your travels this fall season!

Keep checking back each week in the month of October for the Fall Foliage updates.

    * Special thank you to Chetola Resort for hosting us this weekend.

  • In 2008 I attended my first BlogWorld Expo Conference in Las Vegas. It was the first conference for me to attend after creating and it was a decision made on a whim with less than one week before the conference. I was very new to the modern concept of social media and had only signed up for Twitter two months before. It was one of the best decisions I had ever made.

Join the top bloggers and new media experts in the world at BlogWorld Expo 2010 BlogWorld and New Media Expo is more than just a conference for bloggers. It’s a chance to network with industries outside of your niche. It’s a chance to educate yourself if you’re new to blogging, or even if you’re a social media maven. The expo hall is a fantastic way to browse in real life, the brands and companies you virtually interact with. The sessions available are amazing and there is literally something that would interest anyone who has an inkling of interest in blogging.

If you are a company, you need to be there. If you are a personal brand, you need to be there. The price for individuals may look high at first glance, but the ROI of attending can’t even begin to be measured. Here it is, two years after attending my first BlogWorld, and my company is now a media partner, I’ve put together all the sessions for the Travel Track (Friday Oct 15), and I’m speaking.

While you’re at BlogWorld and New Media Expo, I encourage you to step outside of the conference halls and explore all that the city of Las Vegas has to offer. The conference has moved this year and is centrally located at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, part of MGM Resorts International. If you’re on a budget, be sure to check out our list of free things to do in Las Vegas and even more free things to experience in Vegas.  Also, part of the charm of Las Vegas isn’t just the gambling, but the fine dining and live entertainment. Here are some events going on during and after-hours for BlogWorld that you may want to add to your personal itinerary. Remember to follow and use the hashtag #bwe10 to keep up with all things BlogWorld. Keep checking back here at where we’ll be updating this post with parties, show offers, and fun things to do while at #bwe10.

First, start with the Official BlogWorld and New Media Expo Schedule for 2010 and choose the sessions you don’t want to miss. Then, you can start working in some of these fun events to make the most our of your trip to Las Vegas.

Pre-BlogWorld Tweetup – On Wednesday night there will be a tweetup before the expo begins. Sign up at Twtvite.

See Disney’s  The Lion King – The show is offering tickets to BlogWorld attendees, but you must make reservations in advanced. Check out the BlogWorld post on how to arrange your tickets to see this fabulous show.

See a Cirque Show – We’re planning on checking out the new Viva ELVIS show while in Vegas, but there are also other show tickets available for KRISS ANGEL Believe, Mystère, KÀ, Zumanity and LOVE. Check out this post on how to get tickets for a Cirque show during BlogWorld 2010.

Dining Around – BlogWorld has listed the top places for tastings by Check out this list of top 7 dining venues for tastings in Las Vegas for 2010.

Relax at the spa – Thanks to a lucky Elvis slot machine during a previous visit, I was able to afford a treatment at Canyon Ranch Spa. While it wasn’t quite what I expected, I haven’t given up on spas in Las Vegas. In fact, I hear that Vegas offers some of the best spa treatments in the world. I hope to get a chance to experience Spa & Salon at ARIA Las Vegas.

Adrants has a Google Calendar filled with parties and networking goodness compiled for BWE10 (hat tip @WarrenWhitlock)

Let us know if you’re coming to #bwe10 so we can look for you, and if there are any events we’ve missed on this list, be sure to add them in the comments. We’re looking forward to this year’s event and checking out Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

Update: BlogWorld attendees can skip the lines and get food and drink deals from The Light Group. See the post at the BlogWorldExpo Blog.
