Rayovac Sportsman Xtreme Flashlight Giveaway for Father’s Day

by CajunMama

Father’s Day is just around the corner and we Traveling Mamas love our Traveling Papas. For me, I credit my own father for my love of travel. He worked extra shifts at the fire department to make sure our family took a family vacation each year, be it to the Smoky Mountains or the Gulf Coast beaches.

When my dad retired, he took the entire family to Walt Disney World, so that we could all share this first visit with Mickey Mouse. A few years later, he organized a family road trip from Louisiana to Colorado, with stops at odd roadside attractions along the way. A travel wish he’s had for the longest time was to take a cruise and to visit Europe. Thanks to Carnival Cruise Lines, I was able to bring both my parent’s along for the Carnival Magic cruise with European stops.

Rayovac Sportsman Xtreme Outdoor FlashlightOne thing we never really got into while I was growing up was camping. That’s why, when my dad retired and bought an RV, we thought he was a bit crazy. But traveling the US from an RV was something my dad had always wanted to do, but never had the time to do it. One item everyone should have while traveling from campsite to campsite is a Rayovac Sportsman Extreme flashlight. In honor of my dad for this Father’s Day, we’re giving away Rayovac Sportsman Extreme flashlights to 10 commenters on this post.

Features:

  • New and Ultra Bright 4W flashlight LED lasts for 50,000 hours
  • Yields an amazing 180 lumens on high and 75 lumens on low
  • Runtime: 22 hours on high and 60 hours on low
  • Anodized Aluminum
  • Rubber Comfort Grip
  • Water Resistant
  • Sleek Titanium Color
  • Powered by 3 C Batteries

Uses 3 C Batteries (not included)

How to Enter:

Leave a comment by 11:59 PM CST June 19, 2011 stating your favorite outdoor or camping memory with your own dad or father figure in your life. 10 winners will be chosen randomly. Must be US residents age 21 or older. One entry per email per day.

Happy Father’s Day Dad!

My father is into HAM radio. While we never really went camping, he did participate in weekend events where they would practice setting up their radio equipment in the event of an emergency. My father, and his HAM friends, would usually set up in a field and either operate out of a tent, or their vehicle, such as my father’s van. They would make contact with other HAM operators around the country and operate from around Friday evening to Sunday evening, with little to no sleep in between. I would often stay up all night and “camp” with him. Back then we didn’t have cool LED flashlights, only basic incandescent flashlights that would quickly dim on a set of alkaline batteries. I wish I had a flashlight like this back then.

My dad never made a lot of money, but he was determined that we learn about the outdoors and camping. We went on at least one camping trip each summer in our little gray tent, all of us jammed inside!

4 Kim June 13, 2011 at

The first time we decided to go camping, a sudden unexpected thunderstorm appeared. We got totally soaked, along with all of our new camping gear! It didn’t dampen our spirits, though and we stayed the weekend and had a great time!

5 McKim June 13, 2011 at

When I was young our family took a trip to the Thousand Islands area in New York. We camped in a tent – first time we’d ever gone camping and had the time of our life.

My favorite outdoor memory with my dad is when I was very small and he was teaching me to fish! I actually caught 2 fish on the same (triple) hook!

8 Helen Stockwell June 13, 2011 at

My dad loves to fish… even with all girls, he would wake us up at 4AM and head out to the nearest lake to go fishing. We learned to hook our own bait and how to take the fish off the hook when done. We never kept the fish but that was the one thing our dad loved to do with us when we were younger.

My Dad was great and I remember with fondness many times we did things as a family with Dad. We had many a vacation road trips in our proverbial station wagon… all 7 kiddos , mom and pop. We went to local places, picnics, fishing, camping, fairs, outdoor movies, and many other things. We saw the redwood forests and and Yellowstone park, and all sorts of things. Love my Dad! He scared me driving on those roads with drop off cliffs on the way tho.. ;) But only because mom was yelling at him. lol.

10 Deborah Wellenstein June 13, 2011 at

We never went camping per se, but we had a cottage on lake, and my dad would build us huge bonfires, and we would roast marshmallows and hot dogs.

11 christal C June 13, 2011 at

Not necessarily a camping trip but I remember my dad taking me to biker bonfires as a kid. They were so much fun and neat

12 Curtis June 13, 2011 at

I don’t know if it considered camping but we road-tripped from Seattle to the Grad Canyon and back and many of the nights we spent sleeping in our Ford Econoline van at a park. I remember doing it at the Grand Canyon and at Crater Lake.

13 Gail June 13, 2011 at

camping on Stone Mts. it really gets cool at night and flashlights came in handy to find the blankets had a great time

14 Theron N.Willis June 13, 2011 at

I have a fond memory of raccoons raiding a cooler for the trout within.

15 Timmy June 13, 2011 at

My dad never saw a campsite he didn’t like! We learn alot about the outdoors and camping. We went on at least one camping trip every summer in an old reliable 4×4 with us all crammed inside. My favorites were Yellowstone and Mount Shasta!

16 Ellen B June 13, 2011 at

We used to go across country by car and stopping at different places.

18 Mike June 13, 2011 at

My Dad was a fisherman. In an all caps sort of way.

We went fishing on the Big Hole River in Beaverhead County, MT. The mosquitoes somehow never bothered him. All of us mere mortals slathered on insect repellant that had enough DEET in it o dissolve plastic…

After fishing, we would hang out in the Diamond Bar Inn in Jackson, MT. They have an indoor heat pool that used water from a deep, hot water spring.

It was great…

23 Francis Welch June 13, 2011 at

My dad was into photography and on our vacations we would stop for anything scenic. To this day when traveling I cannot avoid looking for scenes that would make a good pic.

I remember the first time I went camping with my dad and mom. I was 8yeas old and we were driving out west in a RV and we stopped at a KAO campground and we had just pulled up and started to get out and get everything ready for the night and it came a huge thunderstorm. They were tonado warnings all around us and we were in a RV and scared to death. The rest of the trip was smooth but I will never forget my first experience with camping.

30 Ellen B June 14, 2011 at

32 Sue E June 14, 2011 at

When I was young my teenage brother and his friends were always going camping. I wanted to go so bad, but of course a 15yr old doesn’t want his 7yr old sister tagging along. My Dad sat up a tent on our property within sight of the house and camped out with me. We roasted wieners and marshmallows and had a great time.

We went camping a lot in fall when I was young, but I do remember Dad taking me fishing once on father’s day. I caught an eel and had to throw it back! But he caught a fish and cleaned it which I thought was the grossest thing I had ever seen at that point. It is a good memory though.

My favorite camping memory is the big bonfires we would make. We would put a tripod over it and hang a cast iron pot on it and cook chili. We’d roast hotdogs to eat with the chili and of course later have S’Mores.

Well, we aren’t campers, but I did go on a lot of bike rides with my dad. We’d bike for miles and miles. I don’t think I could do it now!

52 Jodi June 17, 2011 at

My dad and I never went camping, but we always went on long bike rides. I remember going on one ride and my dad had my baby brother in the baby seat and somewhere along the way my brother lost his pacifier. It happened to be his last one and my mother was not happy when we returned.

53 Ellen B June 17, 2011 at

We used to get up early and go down the shore and crab. We would catch a lot of crabs and bring them home. Mom would cook them up. i did not eat them though.

My favorite camping memory with my dad is off roading in our VW thing. He takes us through riverbeds. It was very exciting.

58 Deb June 18, 2011 at

We really enjoyed going to the beach. The only problem was Dad would take forever getting used to the water. He would walk in slowly as he splashed the cold water on his arms and legs. We could hardly wait till he was fully in the water and ready to play with us.

59 Ellie W June 18, 2011 at

My best memory is fishing with my dad when I was just a little girl. When I caught my first fish he was more excited than I was.

Our family had a motorhome, so every summer Dad would pack up the whole family and drive cross country to my sister who lived in Arizona. It would take 5 days each way and we would spend 3 weeks there. I remember one year my parents being exceptionally brave lol and driving up to washington state to visit my brother, down thru california to arizona to visit my sister, over to texas to visit one of my dad’s sisters. And then over to Tennesse to see his other sister’s new farm and then up to Pennsylvania to see Mom’s brother and then FINALLY back home lol. (we lived in Illinois). I was never so happy to be home as i was at the end of that summer.

We used to have a cabin that we would visit a few times a year–once my Dad had to work so my Mom took us kids to the cabin. When we got there and opened the door we heard an awful noise and we were terrified –it sounded like some wild animal had gotten in and was in one of the bedrooms dying–or waiting to attack us–my Mom called my Dad and he drove 2 hours to come rescue us–he got there went in and found the fire ditector –it’s batteries had died and it was beeping to tell us–only it had been beeping for months–and the beep was now a long slow squeal. My poor Dad had to come resque us from the smoke alarm!

The first time my cousin and I camped out in our back yard, my Dad came home from 2nd shift a bit after midnight, snuck up to the puptent, and put his hand under the floor of the tent. We thought it was a huge snake attacking and crawled screaming out of the tent, to a lot of laughter. Maybe it was a bit mean, but we didn’t mind, although it took a while to get to sleep that night.
