Top 5 Western NC Fall Festivals for Families

by OneMomsWorld

Fall is in the air here in the High Country of NC. The cool crisp air, the leaves beginning to change and Mountaineer Football’s first home game are the three top signs that fall is well on it’s way to the North Carolina Mountains.

Fall in the mountains brings so many fun activities for families. Today, I would like to give you the dish on the Top 5 Fall Festivals that your whole family will enjoy.

1. Brushy Mountain Apple Festival

I have been going to this festival annually since I was a little girl. Now, I am carrying on the tradition by taking my girls. You get to watch them make apple butter on site, see lots of fun entertainment including clogging, so many awesome crafts and just a good time seeing what all the vendors have to offer.

2. Woolly Worm Festival

Have you heard of a woolly worm? Surely you have sometime in your lifetime. Now is the time to let your kids race worms. That is right, watch woolly worms race to see which one will tell the winter forecast for the mountains. Enjoy games, entertainment and lots of crafts.

3. Autumn at Oz on Beech Mountain

Bring one of your favorite childhood movies to life right before your eyes at the Autumn at Oz. You will see actual bricks from the yellow brick road and maybe even meet a munchkin from the actual movie. You will walk down the yellow brick road, visiting all the characters in the Wizard of Oz. Music, food, and crafts are also along your way.

4. Tweetsie Railroad Halloween Festival

Tweetsie is such a fun family friendly place. I wrote about our adventures there last year. You can enjoy the pumpkin and autumn festivities during the day and then do the adventurous spooky festivities at night.

5. Sugar Mountain Oktoberfest

An event where admission, parking and shuttle is free. Straight from their site: “Take in the beautiful fall foliage, cool, comfortable mountain temperatures, and a weekend full of festival activities from 10 am until 5 pm each day. Be sure to bring the kids because the event is for the whole family.”

There you have it my friends, now begin your planning and have a blast creating priceless fall memories here in the High Country of NC.
